World Habitat Awards 2013 winners announced

A project focused on restoring a historic town centre supporting economic and community regeneration and a targeted programme for providing accommodation for chronically homeless people are the winners of the 2013 World Habitat Awards – chosen from over 200 entries from across the globe.

The Hebron Old City Rehabilitation Programme in Palestine aims to re-populate the deteriorated city centre, preserve cultural heritage, support local economic development and provide affordable housing.

The city of Medellin in Colombia was the host of the main celebrations marking this year’s World Habitat Day.

Other festivities were held with a wide range of events and activities on the theme “Urban Mobility” held in Medellin, London, Singapore, Nairobi and many other cities, towns and assorted venues across the globe.

Round Table Dialogue on Investing in Young People

Organized by the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, the round table involved the different UN entities whose work tackle youth issues and how together, as the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD), they could support the UN System Wide Action Plan (SWAP) for youth which will ensure that within the UN, young people are included in decision making at all levels of development processes.
