The UN-Habitat land program in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is an innovative example of a community based approach to raise awareness on how addressing tenure security in post-conflict settings is critical for achieving peace. The program started conducting a land conflict mitigation strategy through mediation “as an entry point for a national reform of the land tenure legislation” to contribute to stability, said Mr. Oumar Sylla, Chief Technical Adviser (CTA).
Afghan Cities Sign Up for Resilient Cities

Five Afghan cities have joined the Making Cities Resilient Campaign hosted by the Kabul Municipality and Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), in coordination with UN-Habitat and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction UNISDR.
Southern Africa Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Technical Centre is launched

A new Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Technical Centre for Southern Africa, called DIMSUR was launched early this month in Maputo attended by high level government officials from Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and the Union of Comoros.
UN-Habitat joins forces with International Tunnelling Association

UN-Habitat and the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their collaboration in urban drainage management. The MOU was signed by the Executive Director of the association, Mr. Olivier Vion, and Mr. Andre Dzikus, the Coordinator of Urban Basic Services at UN-Habitat.

Local and Regional organizations, in their capacity as governmental stakeholders and gathered in a Global Taskforce for Post 2015 Development Agenda and Towards Habitat III, on Tuesday emphasized their commitment to end extreme poverty in all its forms, to reduce inequalities, in the context of sustainable development, and to contribute to put in place the building blocks of sustained prosperity for all.
