Rebuilding Lebanon – UN-HABITAT reports back to Cyprus

A UN-HABITAT project team in Lebanon helping rebuild the living environment in 21 towns around the country recently briefed the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Mrs. Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, on progress in a post-conflict rehabilitation programme for which the Development Assistance Agency of the Republic of Cyprus (Cyprusaid) has provided 500,000 euros through UN-HABITAT.
Training for better cities in Nigeria

UN-HABITAT conducted an urban management course for Nigerian ministers, municipal officials and other experts last week to help 12 specially selected cities improve their urban governance as part of a programme finance by the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria. The idea is to conduct rapid surveys in each city aimed at helping them identify problem areas and then finding the best solutions.

UN-HABITAT's Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka addressed the opening session of the Commonwealth Youth Forum on 14 November prior to the 2007 beinnial gathering in Uganda of Commonwealth Heads of Government. In a keynote address, she called on young people to press their leaders for more resources for youth progammes.
UN Secretary General assists young people in African slum

A group of 30 young people drawn from Kenya’s largest slum of Kibera last week held talks at UN-HABITAT headquarters in Nairobi last week to explore ways of helping their colleagues benefit from slum upgrading and construction programmes with funds made available by UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon through the Pony Chung Scholarship Foundation.
