Rio de Janeiro, 26 Mar 10

Business Roundtable, Mr Silvio Vaz-Vale Foundation, Mr Stephane Quere-SUEZ, Mr Darren Ware-CISCO

For the first time in a World Urban Forum, three main events were dedicated or closely related to the Business Sector’s participation and commitment to sustainable urban development: A Business Caucus, a Business Roundtable and the launch of the World Urban Campaign.

The WUF5 marked the beginning of a new era in terms of public-private partnerships towards addressing urban sustainable development and global challenges.

A large number of representatives from the private sector attended the events, with key speakers sharing their views and debating on urbanization challenges. US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and other key speakers referred to public-private partnerships as a priority to face the urban challenges and the world’s sustainable development. Ms. Clinton also pointed out the need for strengthening governance and putting in place innovative financing tools for local authorities.
